“Samoyed’s Solace” Imperial Porter
Release Date: 23 August, 1997

You’ve heard of Imperial Stout, but never Imperial Porter, you say? “Surely it must be a misprint,” you exclaim? Hell, no! We’re just too damn ICONOCLASTIC around here to be making an Imperial Stout. Everyone is brewing that these days. Often with no justification for the “imperial” claim, no less! Of course, proper ethanol content as a style parameter is something we take seriously in these parts. First, it is dark. Dark, dark, dark. When you get your nose down on that reddish-brown, long lasting head of foam, you will pick up some strong aromatics of chocolate, alcohol and black fruit. Or maybe it is red fruit, I don’t know. I’m on my third glass already. At first taste, there is a very rich, sweet chocolatey flavor that gives over to dryness of high alcohol and slight bitterness from highly-roasted malts. If you’re better at this than I am, you may detect some hop flavor-we used British Northdowns. This beer was fermented with a yeast from a popular independent brewer in London, from an original gravity of 1.098 to a final gravity of 1.017. It is 10.5% ABV, and quite beguiling for it’s richness. So please enjoy responsibly. We busted our little butts making this behemoth, used lots of ingredients and tied up one of our fermenters for a very long time. So, as is the case with our barley wine, we will be charging a bit more. We know you’ll think its’ worth the extra rubles.
