THETFORD IPA
AKA: WILD JOHN’S HOP INSANITY
Release Date : 29 July, 2000

Thetford IPA is a special brew, so named because of the use of fresh milled and whole hop flowers grown by our friend in nearby Thetford, Vermont. It significantly differs from Red God IPA, our standard representative of this style, in several ways. It is paler in color, with a slight haze imparted by the use of flaked barley in the mash. It is also slightly lighter in body and has a drier finish that emphasizes the spicy and citrusy flavors and crisp bitterness of the hops, which are added to the brew six different times from kettle to conditioning tank. It is very crisp and refreshing, and almost ridiculously hoppy. Guaranteed to please all the over-the-top hopheads out there.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF IPAs:
IPA (India Pale Ale) was created by the pale ale brewers of Burton-On-Trent, England, in the 18th century. It was made specifically for export to British troops and colonists who at the time occupied India. In order for their beer to survive the shipboard journey (from England to the southern tip of Africa and up the other side to India) the brewers created a pale ale considerably stronger and hoppier than the norm, figuring that the high alcohol content and high hopping rate would act as natural preservatives (they were right). The beer was so well-liked that it became popular back in England, and the beer became a style in its own right.
