ALEISTER’S APRICOT WHEAT ALE

Don’t think this beer will emulate what most brewpubs and micros call a fruit beer. This is not a “beer with natural fruit flavoring added”. No, Sir. Instead we’ve added real apricot fruit into our American wheat beer* and fermented it all together with our house ale yeast. The result may not be what you expect. Our ale yeast consumes the natural sugars in the apricots the same way it devours the sugars from our malt, converting it into alcohol and CO2. What we’re left with is very subtle and refreshing- a wheat beer the color of, um, apricots, with a fruity, estery, malty aroma. Some of you may even detect a faint hop bouquet. A tart apricot flavor which might make you pucker (remember, the sweetness has been fermented away) weaves its way in and out of a mellow wheat-and-malt flavor, and follows through into a dry, slightly hoppy finish. Whether as a tasty refresher on its own, or as an excellent accompaniment to food, chances are you’ll be pleasantly surprised by this unique local craft brew. Enjoy it while the weather’s great.

*By “American wheat beer” we mean it’s not to be confused with our German-style weizenbier, which is produced using a special imported yeast and has been on tap previously this summer. Aleister’s Apricot Wheat Ale is made with the same ale yeast as ‘most all our regular ales.
