DUNKLES-WEIZEN
Dark German-style wheat beer “mit hefe”
Release Date: 5 August, 1999
Dunkles ( rhymes with uncle) weizen is a slightly darker version of a traditional Bavarian wheat beer (yes, dunkles means dark). It is unfiltered and cloudy, and still full of that same unique German ale yeast which characterizes our regular hefe-weizen. However, a dunkles weizen typically features a maltier palate, with subtle notes of roasted malt, and can often be a bit hoppier, particularly in the finish. It has a similar spritzy effervescence, is light-to-medium bodied, and is a very refreshing beer for the late summer heat.
This is the last batch of (Bavarian style) wheat beer for the summer. You may not have noticed, but we’ve brewed and sold over 900 gallons of hefe weizen this season, and when the dunkles runs out, well, that’s it until next year.
