ENGLISH MILD ALE
Our newest specialty beer is an uncommon style, even more
so due to its pale color. “Mild” ale once enjoyed popularity amongst the laborers in British industry, for its restorative quality and low alcohol. The style’s name referred to the mild bitterness level. After years of declining favor due to its “blue-collar” image and dark color, it is again gracing the bars and tables of British and Welsh pubs, AND at a certain pub in Cambridge.
This version is not the typical dark mild, but a pale mild,such as those brewed at the Robinson’s and McMullen breweries in England. It is unfiltered but relatively clear. The aroma is mostly of malt, with a subtle but definite toastiness. Medium-bodied and slightly sweet up front, it becomes well-balanced between the toasty malt flavor and the English Fuggles hops. The finish is somewhat dry, with the accent on the malt.
